One of the very best

Jere Brophy is simply one of the best researchers in this field, and this book typifies his effective use of research in classroom application, as well as his user-friendly prose. As a former practitioner in the high school classroom, and now an adult educator learning more about research and its incredible value, I am convinced that this book should be in the hands of every classroom teacher and those of other stakeholders, with time enough to read, absorb, and apply. Our students would be in far better places than they are now. Brophy combines compassion, wisdom, practicality in all his work.

Motivating Students to Learn

This is an excellent book and the title is self explanatory. I would highly recommend this as THE book on `motivating students to learn' without the need to look further. Its focus is `intrinsic motivation' which is the main thrust of learning in todays schools. For students studying Education, this is an invaluable text. It recognises the diversity of learners and is loaded with practical ideas on how to keep children and yourself, as an educator motivated. It is worth every cent!!

Great practice

The extra practice was just what I needed to gain confidence using the past tense. There are clear explanations with exercises and an answer key. They say repetition is the key with any language and this book gave me that additional practice.

pretty good but a little too minimalist

I overall like this book but I think it is just a little too condensed and could use more practice exercises, maybe more like the French verb workbook by Chamberlain that I also reviewed. For example, I felt that the section on pronominal verbs with the past perfect (chapter one) should have had more practice problems and maybe been a little more fleshed out because it is a very complex topic with a lot of 'in this case do this except for when this is the case' type scenarios. The French verb workbook by Chamberlain does a much better job explaining this.

It was a little annoying to find that exercise 3.5 asks the learner to do problems using the simple past--never mind the fact that the simple past is not taught until chapter five. It is pretty bizarre how many truly bad book editors are out there. How does one explain that? It is like all the smart people went into the hard sciences and the humanities got whomever was leftover or something. It would be nice to read a book without finding all sorts of mistakes for a change.

I am not enjoying this workbook as much as Chamberlain's verb workbook but it is good extra practice. I am using both at once and they are reinforcing each other.

Having initially been a professor, I connect with and love teaching students on a daily basis. I also know from experience that college can be tough and money can often be an issue. Aside from money, time is also very precious to students in this fast-paced world. Students don't have the time to wade through walls of text and decipher pretentious terms to get to the point and understand what they are learning. Trying to help students utilize their time and money wisely motivated me to start publishing study guides. I am committed to providing my readers with books that contain concise and accurate information and I am committed to providing them tremendous value for their time and money. Business aside... I have a passion for living an active lifestyle. I am avid weightlifter who is fascinated with nutrition, human anatomy, and physiology. In-depth review of everything you studied about biology

This is a really in-depth review of everything I learned about biology throughout my life ! I was really nice to refresh the memories of how the processes in the human body work, the chemistry of it all. The book is filled with diagrams and pictures, as well as the main points and curiosities regarding each topic. It contains everything about cells, the DNA and the structure of animals and plants. It was a good read !

This is a very good book to refresh one's memory of how life works based on science. This is very helpful, especially when you have students at home. This can’t only be a reference but can also be a guide. New information for those who are not into science. More or less it will get your attention to learn more how to study about life on earth. How from a tiny cell man, animals and plants have been created, which will definitely amaze everyone who reads this.

This is a great series! I looked over this and read some of this when I purchased it for my daughter, it really seems to explain biology in an easy, concise manner! If you have always struggled with traditional biology textbooks, this e-book is a much better choice for explaining biology principles in way that makes much more sense for the beginning biology student!

Coming of age...

A "coming of age" story about a boy-becoming-a-man and a magician in a world where magic is oppressed or tightly controlled. His growth and revelations along the way, the friends he makes, and the "truths" he realizes provide a majority of this book's content. He meets what will eventually be a "love interest" -- she also becomes a major player within the book.

The story progresses well in the beginning, simply written but interesting. It breaks down a bit when multiple points-of-view are introduced, basically following two storylines fated to eventually come together.
I didn't appreciate the "cliffhanger-like" ending -- it was a far too obvious ploy, and there were many better ways to conclude this book and carry the reader's interest forward to the next.

From my perspective, an "okay" book, though I'll not be reading the rest of the series -- the theme has been often repeated and its conclusion forgone.

Oddly uneven in quality.

I really wanted to like this book, and for the most part I did. Liked the characters, interesting plot developments, and so on. But then, especially in the last quarter of the book, are some chapters that are truly poorly written, mixed randomly among others that are well-written and well-edited. Pages of dialog in which you know which two characters are conversing but you can't tell which lines belong to whom, and some lines seem to be missing. Odd, missing, or flat-out erroneous punctuation. Shoddy sentence structure. Given how polished most of the writing is, it feels like somehow the unedited first stream-of-conscious drafts of some chapters got mixed in with the final well-edited version of the rest of the book. Or, as another reviewer put it, that it was written by multiple authors. Too bad. Maybe the author will pay attention to the reviews and issue a revised edition?

Predictable but enjoyable

While I found the book predictable in many ways, it did have some twists I didn't expect. The world building felt flat at the beginning, but it started to feel a little more three dimensional by the end. I hope the sequel fleshes out the world and characters in more detail.
