He stroke his thumb across her bottom lip. "And I want to kiss you. May I kiss you?"
She looked over her shoulder, saw the carriage with the girls disappearing around the corner, and looked back up at him with a shy smile. "Okay."
Sliding his hand into her hair, he moved a little closer and lowered his lips. But he didn't kiss her immediately. He let his lips just touch hers, and then waited, enjoying the notion that he was finally dating this beautiful woman, reveling in the anticipation of being about to kiss her. A small part of his brain noted the way her chest rose and fell rapidly, and he felt an answering increase in his heartbeat as his blood raced around his body. Her pupils had dilated, and he knew his would be doing the same, their bodies responding to invisible pheromones in an age-old instinctive seduction. Her lips parted, her sweet breath entwining with his, and she closed her eyes. Charlie kept his open for a moment though, observing the flush in her cheeks and how soft her lips looked, before he lowered his mouth the final fraction of an inch, and kissed her.
He closed his eyes. He was barely moving, just pressing his lips to hers in the slowest, softest kiss, and yet his senses were awakening, blooming like a flower. A tiny part of him was conscious of the laughter of children in the distance, the rumble of the roller coasters through the ground beneath his feet, the brush of the summer breeze across the back of his neck, the silkiness of her hair slipping through his fingers, the smell of sun lotion on her skin. But the majority of his consciousness focused on her lips, and how it felt to touch his to them.
Why did the kiss feel so erotic when the only place he was touching was her lips and her hair? They were in public, and hardly anyone gave a passing glance at their innocent smooch.
But it was sexy and intimate to be so close to her after having worshipped her from afar for so long. To have his mouth on hers, and then, when he touched his tongue to her lip, to have her tongue slide against his, warm, slick, and sensual. He could taste the chocolate mints they'd bought earlier and eaten together, and he shivered when her hand rose to cup his cheek, her light touch bring goose bumps out on his skin in spite of the warmth of the day.
But it was the way she returned the kiss, as if she was enjoying it, as if she wanted to kiss him back more than anything in the world, that fired him up and meant he had to fight with every ounce of willpower he possessed not to slip his arms around her and pull her to him so he could feel all of her soft body.
He lifted his head and gazed at her through a haze of sexual longing.
"Oh..." she whispered, looking up at him. "Don't look at me like that."
"Like what?" He didn't kiss her again, conscious of people passing by as his senses reawakened to the world, but he didn't move back either, not wanting the delicious moment to end.
"Like I'm a melting ice cream cone," she said.
His lips curved up. "What a great description. And yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking."

Wonderful Story- perhaps my favorite leading man.

Set in New Zealand, this is the second installment of a three part series and the story of quiet and deep Charlie and newly single mom, Ophelia. Dr. Charlie researches new technology for children's respiratory issues and newly single Ophelia, who works at the hospital, has a daughter Summer with Cystic Fibrosis.Ophelia is working through a divorce with a husband who doesn't want the marriage to end, yet treats her poorly.
While Charlie might not be everyone's idea of a leading man, he is one of my favorites. He has what seems like Asperger's with an inability to convey how he feels, and his quiet personality overshadows the deep and intense feelings underneath. Not your typical leading man, but Woods does a wonderful job describing his reactions and his underlying emotion. Their relationship grows as they walk the line between her impending divorce, his inability to catch subtleties and Summer's condition, yet his calm demeanor is exactly what Ophelia needs. Ophelia, after a complex marriage full of undertones and hostility welcomes an honest relationship where you can say what you mean without any stress or complexity. She not only "gets" him, she appreciated him. He is sweet, strong and vulnerable in his own way.
Charlie and his brothers who are the subjects of the other books, work together manufacturing all things to help kids while they are under treatment or in the hospital. They are billionaires, yet all work very hard to make the world a better place. Their ideas and work are fascinating and add a keen angle to the series. Be forewarned-there is consensual sex in the book- Charlie gets his girl, and she is happy about it!

Ooh, Charlie you sexy, refreshing, leading man.

AN IDEAL PRESENT (THREE WISE MEN# 2) by Serenity Woods.
This is the second book of the three King brothers, and it is Charlie's story. Charlie is the "brain" behind development of new & better products, processes, and medical equipment for children with respiratory illnesses.
Scientifically a genius, socially awkward Charlie is interested in dating Ophelia, but finds out that she is married. Content in seeing her daily at the breakfast cart, he learns she is leaving the hospital and that she's no longer with her husband. It takes him days to get the courage to ask her out, but finally a dinner date has been set. Charlie made the date to include her daughter and that had me sold on him already.
While talking, Charlie thought he may have said something that upset or angered Ophelia. He explains that he truly has trouble with non-verbal communication. He was even tested for Aspergers as a child.
Ophelia, thankfully is happy to verbalize any concerns or to clear up any miscommunication.
It certainly is a refreshing change to know Ophelia will always know where she stands with Charlie. Ophelia's ex is manipulative and controlling.
Everyone should have that special someone who just "gets them". I was thrilled that Charlie found that with Ophelia and vice versa.
Ophelia and Charlie have to deal with her ex not wanting to let her go, but Ophelia realizes what love is with Charlie and they are going to prevail and get their HEA.

Loved, loved, loved it!

An Ideal Present, is book two of the King Brothers. I appreciate how these three brothers made their money the old fashion way while managing to help the seriously ill at the same time. The first book opens with the three brothers on Skye, during this conversation you are able to gather who will be Charlie’s love interest. Also you are able to tell that he is brilliant in research, though lacking in the socializing department.
I like Charlie, in fact I have taught several just like him over the years. I cannot deny it warmed my heart to think that there is an Ophelia out there who can love and appreciate them, too. So this is a different spin on a romance, I loved the originality.
Ophelia is the ideal woman for Charlie. This is a realistic view of a woman trying to do what is right for her child and herself. I can completely understand how she wants to find Ophelia the woman, that has been lost or perhaps bury by being mother of a very sick child and then in an unhappy marriage. Believe it or not, Charlie helps her as much as she helps him.
Lastly, I like that Dillon is not entirely despicable. While he definitely has some serious issues that must be faced, he seems to want to change. Perhaps another book could show his getting help with therapy and then finding the ability to love again. I really would like to have that hope for the Dillons of the world.
To say that this is a favorite is an understatement. I loved this original, authentic love story.
