With Earth recently emerged from alien domination, a space-naval officer uncovers a human-alien conspiracy to involve Earth is a deadly war for galactic empire that would destroy Earth’s fragile democracy. New York Times best-seller (with David Weber) and action-adventure science fiction stalwart Steve White returns with a rousing tale of adventure and space warfare in the near future.

A near-future Earth has shaken off the devastating colonization by alien Lokaran invaders and totalitarian rule by the alien’s puppets, the Earth First party.  But now Earth is flung into galactic intrigue and war. The Lokaron empire teeters on the edge of a fratricidal meltdown and  a cabal of ancient enemies hope to use Earth as a proxy to destroy the empire and rule over a new Galactic Dark Age.

Now Captain Andrew Roark, the son of heroes of the rebellion and an officer trained in Lokaran space warfare tactics, joins with a highly capable Lokar who opposes the empire but wishes to see it transformed rather than destroyed. Together they must uncover a conspiracy to control Earth, and then obtain the secret key to defeating it.  War for galactic control looms, and freedom for Earth—so recently escaped from under the boot-heel of one oppressor—is once again in the balance.

Would you go alone with the bad alien ?
By Harvey A. Lewis
The situation is that you have the mysterious alien device, you have a live captured alien, and you are the only people that know about the aliens. Would you go, alone, with the bad alien, to a place of his choice, so he can show you how the mystery device works ? Neither would any other sane adult, but in this book it happens. I am reminded of one of the old theater serials where the hero is shown going off a cliff or something, but in the next episode he is shown to have miraculously survived. The plot device of doing something stupid so there can be a last moment rescue should have been phased out decades ago.

bored
By Monte Bloyd
Every author has his or her fans but I couldn't finish this, it kept putting me to sleep so I finally put it in the discard file to go to the second hand book shop. Maybe I can get a couple of dollars for it.

Give me clarity

Humanity is not alone, it trades and competes with aliens. They have better ships, computers, and trade-goods. After some wrong starts, Terra operates as a 'Combined Nations of Earth'. The CNE sets policy for the space navy. Andrew Roark is a Navy Captain and coincidentally, son of two heroes.
The Lokaron species is wider spread than humans, and adapted to many different planets. A Gevah is a Lokar nation. Each planet has their own Gevah/Gevahon (singular/plural), usually shortened to 'Gev-' and preceeding the planet name. So Humans were first contacted by members of Gev-Tizath; and fought a war with Gev-Rogov. A Hovah is a merchant house, loosely located on their home Gevahon; we trade with Hov-Korth. Got all that? If you do not, better dogear the glossary in back.
As for technology, shuttles '...convert the angular momentum of atomic spin directly into linear thrust...' .
Space ships have two methods of travel; by means of reactionless drives, the second explained as: 'Far worse had been the aliens' apparent ability to cross the interstellar gulfs in less time than general relativity allowed for.... Their ships didn't really transgress the sacrosanct lightspeed limit. They merely avoided it by means of a higher dimension-- "overspace" --in which points congruent to locations in normal space were only relatively short distances apart, in which space drives worked normally.' (p. 62)
The act of cloaking (invisibility, or stealthing) is just a means of hiding from everyone's sensors. Humans discover their detectors cannot see ships of two navies visiting this solar system due to superior cloaking. To the Admirals, this makes possible crippling surprise attacks on the home planet.
But first comes the death of a famous Admiral, and the search for those who killed him. This requires gunplay and kidnapping multiple characters.
